Typing Test
Keyboard Skills Requirements
To complete the Keyboard Skills component for any AEM Certificate (component is worth 2 credits), we require evidence of a 3 minute typing test, with the result of at least 35 words per minute (wpm), at 98% accuracy.
Attaining Speed and Accuracy
The required accuracy is 98%. The raw typing speed is taken as the "score" for reporting, irrespective of the accuracy, provided the accuracy is at least 98%.
This means, for example, a speed of 51 wpm @ 96% accuracy will not be recorded. The student should try again, more carefully, to increase the accuracy.
Sending Results
Use the form on this page to upload and send us the evidence of your child's Typing Test results.
When submitting typing results for a Certificate Pathway, you must provide substantial evidence of completion, such as a certificate or evidence of completion summary page from a typing tutor program. It MUST include the following:
- The student's FULL FIRST and LAST name (no nicknames)
- The duration of the test: must be 3 minutes or longer
- The accurate typing speed (not adjusted)
- The accuracy percentage
While you are welcome to use the Typing Tutor of your choice, we do recommend Typing.com, as they produce a Certificate of Achievement with all of the above information.
Determining Typing Grades
The accuracy is not used in calculating the grade, but used to determine whether or not the speed is accepted. Grades are awarded for speeds as follows:
C = 35 - up to 40 wpm |
B = 40 - up to 44 wpm |
A = 45+ wpm |
If your child has already submitted a typing speed, but has not yet submitted an application for their certificate, they can redo the typing test and resubmit the result.
