Academic Projection Chart and Goal Contract

More information

Printable A4 pdf version; contains an Academic Projection Chart and a Goal Contract.  Both of which can be beneficial to keep the student on track and motivated to finish.  While they are designed for Certificate Level Students, there is no reason why younger students and families cannot use it.

The Academic Projection Chart helps both the parents and the students to track their progress over the year.  The Goal Contract is designed to be an agreement between a parent and a student regarding how many PACEs they will complete that year.

We recommend you print on cardboard.

SPC

Printable A4 pdf version; contains two blank Supervisor Progress Cards.

We recommend you print on cardboard.

Supervisor Progress Cards are on the webstore under Forms-Administration, and cost around 25c.

Attendance Charts

Important!

Do not send your child’s attendance to us.

It is not a legal requirement that you have a formal attendance record with us, however, we recommend you keep your own record of activities, attendance and illness in a journal.

For your convenience, we have made a blank monthly attendance chart that you can adjust for each month by adding the day of the month (number) under the relevant day of the week.  Please feel free to download (by clicking on the image), then add your children and the month's dates and keep as a digital record, or alternatively, it can be printed.

Sample Timetable

The sample timetable is a guide only. Certainly, actual times should be kept flexible. You should explain to your child that starting and finishing times are of course set by the goal card and the parent's judgement of what is sufficient for each subject.

About

Our training teaches that formal bookwork typically takes to around lunchtime to complete, according to completion of goals.

Afternoon activities may include "free" or "play" time, tuition, or structured activities.

The purpose of a timetable is to demonstrate a structured approach to the child's schooling, and can also help teach the child skills in reading tables!

Literature Book List

A colour version can be viewed under A.C.E. Resources / Literature.

Personal Progress Report

About

For parents who wish to have a personal report to accompany the semester reports (score summary) that we send.

This report of the child’s personal progress provides a joint evaluation by the supervising parent and their child after a working period of one semester.

We recommend that the child first self-assess in the areas indicated. The supervising parent may then assess the child, and compare the assessment. This is a useful assessment tool that can be part of the family’s reporting for continued registration.

Text Types

Text Types

Text types are different ways of writing that suit different purposes and different audiences.

A.C.E. teaches text types throughout its English (including Literature) course. Other subjects and resources cover some specialised text types.

Different educational groups may give different names to these ways of writing, but the skills are much the same in every group.

Click here to see more about how A.C.E. teaches Text Types.

Marking PACE Tests Guidelines from the Certificates Team

About

The Certificates Team use a benchmark to uphold the integrity of the Certificates when they mark PACE Tests for Moderation.  A benchmark is a set of standards by which PACE tests are assessed, to ensure consistency at a high academic level.

Accelerate Chrisitan Home Schooling has created the Marking PACE Test Guidelines based on this benchmark to assist families to ensure that they are marking the PACEs to a high standard.  It will also guide parents of students at the Certificate level to mark the PACEs in such a way that will align to this standard.

Marking PACE Test Guidelines - Based on the Certificates Team Benchmark to mark PACE Tests.

About

The use of Significant Figures is taught in Physical Science 1109.

Some students, however, have found some issues with using significant figures in other senior Science PACEs.

This document repeats the rules for using significant figures and looks at some example issues.

About

Scientific Notation is first taught in Maths PACE 1078, and also in 1086. It is assumed that basic index notation is understood in order to learn this.

This document teaches how to write numbers as scientific notation, and convert scientific notation back to standard notation.

If doing this as a bridging lesson, make sure that the test is done in test conditions, and that the student does not have the answer key.

Click here for the lesson. A separate worksheet is included in the Maths Lessons (from the Member Area).

Grammar Help Sheet

This may help with review of basic grammar.

8 Steps to Simple sentence Patterning

Fuel Consumption

More

Business Math 1-12 is an excellent consumer maths course and suitable as a basic mathematics review.

Having been developed in the USA, you will of course see references to American business and monetary concepts and terms. In particular, American taxation laws are referred to, but the principals apply to other countries also.

In PACE #7, budgeting is introduced, and includes budgeting for fuel and exercises in calculating fuel economy.

Students can learn about fuel consumption, miles per gallon and Litres per hundred kilometers here. Some activities with answers are included.

Alternative Activities
for English 1107

About

On Page 2 of the 2014 edition of English PACE 1107, three resource books are mentioned: Twice Freed; C.T. Studd; and Mary Slessor, Missionary to Calabar.

The first resource, Twice Freed, is an excellent book, and there are several activities in the PACE that relate to it.

The other two, although also excellent books, are not directly used except for one activity on page 13.

If you do not have these two resource books, click this link to download good substitute activities to replace questions (7) to (10) on Page 13.
Alternative Activities
for Creative Communication Skills 6

About

The text, The Art of Story Telling, has been revised; however the activity book Unit 6 has not been updated. You should not order Unit 6.

Alternative activities are therefore required to complete this credit.

This activity replaces Unit 6 of the course. The second page has a review of Outlining.

For moderation purposes, send back the sheet and all drafts and answers.
